Class 2 is working on breaking and passing closed guard.
As we covered last week guard is one of the main attacking positions. This means we need to be able to get out of guard and pass to be able to start attacking our opponent.
The movement drill for this week is the sit through. This movement will not only help increase the flexibility in your hips but help you maintain your balance with the knee cut pass.
The key to the guard break is pressure on your partners’ legs to force them open. This is done by standing, putting their own weight on their legs, pushing on their legs and extending your body by putting your knee in the middle.
The pass is about keeping pressure on them. Defending their guard they will want space to move their legs back between you so you need to deny them this.
The advanced video this week shows how as soon as you pass your partners guard you can start to attack and put them into trouble.
