Class 6: Takedowns

This week we dip our toes into the wonderful world of takedowns. This week we work from a stand up position which is a lot less controlled.

The first drill this week is the breakfall. This is a key skill to have if you are going to work from the standing position. The aim is for your hand to hit the floor not your head.

Although we don't work from the shoot this skill is essential if you are going to start looking at single or double leg takedowns.

The sprawl being the opposite of the shoot. A useful skill to get your legs clear from your partners grasp.

We start with what I would call safe takedowns as they don’t risk too much if you get them wrong. Obviously with any takedown the aim is to end up on top (and hold for 3 seconds) but the key to takedowns is doing it 100% a half hearted takedown is going to get you into trouble.

The advanced video this week is a further takedown option. A little trickier but still easy to master with a bit of practice.
